The video stars Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble, the brand-new starter Pokémon for the just-unveiled upcoming Pokémon Sword and Shield games for the Nintendo Switch. With that background, we were ready to believe when he heard about an awesome animated ad for Pokémon KitKats that had appeared online. We’ve enjoyed Pikachu ramen and Magikarp taiyaki, and there’s even a permanent Pokémon Cafe in downtown Tokyo. After all, it’s not like there’s no precedent for tasty Poké-food. So really, a tie-up with anime/video-game franchise Pokémon seems like an entirely logical evolution for the brand. It’s also shown itself willing to splurge on premium ingredients like volcanic and ruby chocolate. KitKat Japan has gone all-in on adding Japanese flair to its sweets, giving us such wonderful flavors as sake, Japanese plum wine, and Hiroshima momiji manju maple cakes. The lovingly animated concept video is too good to be true…for now.
